On many websites these days the following question is constantly being asked: Is there a point where gas prices would you stop you from driving your car? The answers of course vary from “I can barely even afford it now” to “if it hit $7 or so a gallon” and anything in between. To put it another way, what these sites are asking to know is this: what is your breaking point when it comes to gas prices?
Discussions such as this lead one to believe that more people out there really do need to find better ways to save money on gas. With the price of oil always changing, it can be hard for the average consumer to keep within their budgets as gas prices keep going up.
What can you do to save money on gas? There are a lot of different techniques and tips offered out there. In the end, we all need to either increase our cars’ fuel efficiency or just plain drive less. Which is the best option for you? Well, a lot of that depends on your lifestyle needs.
Yes, many of us drive around a lot more than we really need to. Even making simple changes like planning your errand runs in advance so you don’t have to do a lot of back-tracking could help you spend less on gas. Until we find a better energy source or become a more energy independent nation, any of these options should be considered as viable.
Simply put, if we all just sit back and wait to see what will happen we may very well see a day when gas really does cost over $4 a gallon. I for one hope that day doesn’t come any time soon. But in the meantime we should do everything we can to increase our fuel efficiency, reduce overall spending on fuel, and save as much money that we can on fuel costs. Hopefully things will take a turn for the better, but in the end only time will tell.
